Vintage Curtains: Go Modern Using Old Fashioned Design
Shabby chic and country cottage as well as Victorian-style period interior design is all big news these days. There's a whole host of white painted distressed furniture as well as ornate mirrors and bronze candlesticks to dress up your home with. And when it comes to the textiles side, custom made curtains, bed spreads, throws, cushions, table cloths etc can really make a difference to your overall room theme. There are so many vintage fabrics to choose from today, produced by a number of leading UK and international interior design houses. This means if you do fancy re-decorating with a whole new décor scheme then you don't have to go out and start from scratch. High street favourite Cath Kidston is perhaps one of the best known designers of bright, cheery and colourful vintage fabrics, especially designs based on fashion at the time from the 1940s and 1950s. Other vintage fabric designs available on our portal are from Emily Burningham who tends to have a 1930s arts & crafts vintage feel. Another fashion house which specializes in vintage is former Welsh designers Elanbach (the founder of the company was the ex-husband of Laura Ashley – probably the best known vintage fabric designer – especially in the Victorian floral mould of the 1920s and 1930s - until the later advent of Cath Kidston). The following is from Elanbach's 'Something Thirties' collection: Clarke and Clarke have also launched several vintage collections; Modern Classics, Vintage Classics and Vintage Florals Collection. 
As you can see from the above examples, vintage fabric is being used in a whole number of household textile furnishings, not simply ready made curtains or Roman blinds. You can buy vintage fabrics on the high street of course but if you want a professional look which matches your requirements exactly and fits perfectly then it's as well to have your bed spread, cushions, vintage curtains etc read made. Vintage candy-striped curtains are also a fun vintage look while bright paisley print too can jazz up a room no end, particularly a bedroom. And do consider recovering the headboard to match the custom made curtains or blinds. It really adds a bit of uniqueness to your room, not to mention a nice balanced touch. You could also recover kitchen seats too, in keeping with the look, or at least invest in matching cushions. An upholstery store will be able to advise when it comes to recovering if you don't feel confident enough yourself. We've actually heard of some customers loving vintage fabric so much they've framed swatches of it and made it an art work on a dining room or hallway wall.
